Hi there! My name is Lily and I’m a nothing special twenty-one year old with lots of thoughts and a general fear of losing touch. I find this fear manifests itself in preventative ways. For example, I started my memoir at the age of twenty with full intentions of using it as a reminder of my life when I’m old. I’m still writing it, editing, remembering, updating, and most importantly, embellishing. However, it has not proven to be the most holistic remedy. There’s too much left untouched in a memoir. By definition, a memoir covers one’s life, or more specifically, an aspect of one’s life, or a defining moment. Although important, I feel my thoughts characterize me best: abstract, simple, weird, mundane, and overwhelmingly disorderly. Thus, a blog format does my intention (analyzing and cataloging my thoughts) justice.

I believe this blog will challenge me: academically, emotionally, and spiritually. It forces me to write: one of my strengths and budding hobbies. It forces me to dissect my feelings: complex, biased, and comfortingly normal. Lastly, it forces me to think proactively. The internet is a forever place, I think solely of future Lily as I publish these worlds, someone who ought to be considered more often. I’m excited to see what I learn about myself, the world, and my relationship with both over the coming posts. The research I conduct for these future essays already excites me. As a future teacher, I champion life-long learning. Furthermore, I believe learning is never a bad thing, and you can never do it enough. Candidly, and most importantly, this is the first thing I’ve found exciting in a long time. In my opinion, that is reason enough to start this journey.

I chose the name pine and lime, at 2am in my childhood bedroom. I toyed around with the idea of starting a blog around midnight, and indulged what topics I’d write about, what interest there would be, and most importantly, what I would call it. Over the next two hours, these questions buzzed around in my head. I read an article or three about picking a blog name, which suggested several different methods and literary devices. I landed on a rhyming pattern. I wanted a name that encapsulated what this blog is: a collection of my thoughts: raw, valid, and everything in-between. I am allergic to pine tress. I love limes. It’s that simple. This blog, fundamentally, covers things I like and things I don’t like. Most of the topics I post about don’t need an explanation, much like my pine allergy and lime affinity, but I’m giving them one anyway.

The details of what’s ahead remain unknown (how exciting!!). I can promise one thing: thousands of strung together sentences with one thing in common: me. So without further ado, my blog: pine and lime.
